LEE — A three-alarm blaze gutted the inside of one of the town's oldest homes Friday morning.
The three-story residence is on Route 152 at the corner of Campground Road. It had been vacant for about a month and was about to be foreclosed upon, according to Police Chief Chet Murch.
The blaze was first reported just after 3 a.m. Fire Lt. Jim Davis said most of the building was in flames when crews arrived.
Firefighters put together an internal attack and had the blaze under control within two hours, according to Davis.
The structure of the house was still standing, but sustained heavy damage. Most of the home's interior was destroyed.
Murch said there was still power running to the home and there were a few items still inside at the time of the fire.
Firefighters and officials from the state Fire Marshal's Office were on scene investigating Friday.
Fire Lt. Scott Nimet said the state Fire Marshal's office may have more information about the blaze today.
Emergency officials did not know the exact age of the house, but said it was probably one of the oldest in town.
Davis said the back of the home was built in the early 1700s, while its front addition was built in the 1750s.
