News from the Highway Department
Paving- Paving bids are back and Continental Paving was the low bidder again this year at $57.40 per ton placed. By grouping roads in one area together we believe it helped offset the substantial increases in paving cost this year. Last years price was $51.90/ton. Below is a list of roads and potential schedule:
- Finish coat on High Rd.-Scheduled sometime in the first two weeks of May.
- Hobbs Rd.- Sometime in July
- Sawyer Rd. Sometime in July
- Belle Ln. Sometime in July
- Riverside Farm Drive- Sometime in July (funds permitting)
Bridges
A Request for Qualifications has been sent out and advertised for consulting and engineering services for the High Rd bridge project. Proposals are due back on May 12th. Stay tuned for further updates.
Drainage
The Highway department will be cleaning, flushing, and replacing many culverts mostly on the southern end of town this year. Advance notice will be given if replacements require road closures.
Winter (2007-08)
It was a long winter. The Department had to either treat and or plow 35 separate storm events this past winter. As of April 24th, there are still some small snow banks remaining on some of the shaded roads such as Belle Lane and Tuttle in the woods. We recorded a little over 100 inches of snow at the Highway Garage over the winter.
