Two-alarm fire damages home in Durham

DURHAM — The Durham fire department is investigating a two-alarm fire that began in the basement of a two-story house off Edgewood Drive.
At 9:26 a.m., Durham firefighters received a call from a walker who reported smoke pluming from 6 Rocky Lane in Durham. When the department arrived, they discovered a basement fire that had filled two floors of the home with smoke.
Trucks from Exeter, Madbury, Lee, Portsmouth and Dover were called in to assist in extinguishing of the fire. McGregor Memorial EMS was also at the scene.
No residents were home at the time. The homeowner's dog was rescued. Two cats from the home were believed to be safe as well.
The fire was contained and almost entirely extinguished by 10 a.m.
The home sustained smoke damage throughout the first and second floors, as well as a weakening of the first story's floor.
