Birth, Death, Marriage & Divorce Certificates

Birth Certificate: Immediate family* may obtain a certified copy of a birth certificate at any NH Town Clerk’s Office if birth took place in the State of New Hampshire in, or after, 1982. If born in New Hampshire prior to 1982, must obtain certificate from the town in which the birth took place. The cost is $15.00 and $10.00 for additional copies purchased at the same time. Photo ID of requestor required.

Death Certificate: Immediate family* may obtain a certified copy of a death certificate at any Town Clerk’s Office if death took place in the State of New Hampshire in, or after, 1990. If death occurred in New Hampshire prior to 1990, must obtain certificate from the town in which the death was pronounced. The cost is $15.00 and $10.00 for additional copies purchased at the same time. Photo ID of requestor required.

Marriage Certificate: Immediate family* may obtain a certified copy of a marriage or civil union certificate at any Town Clerk’s Office if marriage/civil union took place in the State of New Hampshire in, or after, 1989. If marriage took place in New Hampshire prior to 1989, must obtain certificate from the town in which the Intention of Marriage or Civil Union was filed. The cost is $15.00 and $10.00 for additional copies purchased at the same time. Photo ID of requestor required.

Divorce Certificate: Immediate family* may obtain a certified copy of a divorce certificate at any Town Clerk’s Office if divorce took place in the State of New Hampshire in, or after, 1990 and a minimum of six months prior to request. If divorce took place in New Hampshire prior to 1990, must obtain decree from the Court in which the divorce was granted. The cost is $15.00 and $10.00 for additional copies purchased at the same time. Photo ID of requestor required.


*Immediate family means mother, father, son, daughter, brother, sister, husband, wife, grandfather, grandmother, grandson, granddaughter, great-grandmother, greatgrandfather, great-grandchildren, guardian, step-parents, step-children, aunt, uncle, nephew, niece of the registrant, but not cousins.
