Activity Log 2/20/23 to 2/28/23

We’re sorry the log has been on hiatus; and hope that it didn’t make anyone hate us. It certainly wasn’t our plan, or intent; but we can assure you, the time was well spent. You see we were testing, the skills of our writing; by applying for grants, which is very exciting. There are probably some, who think it sounds funny; but it brings us such joy, to save taxpayers money. And here’s a reward, for the long boring wait; the latest log’s here, fresh out of the gate. We hope it informs you, and brings you some laughter; ‘cause at the end of the day, that’s the reaction we’re after.

Lee Police Activity Log for 2/20/23 to 2/28/23:
Calls for Service:
- Performed 70 directed patrols and business checks.
- Performed 17 motor vehicle stops, including 9 for speed.
- A person was worried, for an elderly friend; who wasn’t responding, to calls they would send. No one had seen them, outside for days; the drive was unshoveled, as were the walk ways. We went to the home, as requested to check; and noticed an absence of prints on the deck. The fresh fallen snow, lay pristine on the ground; it was perfectly clear, not one print was around. We climbed up the steps, and knocked on the door; and to our relief, heard feet cross the floor. The resident answered, and all appeared well; but they couldn’t shovel, that we could tell.  If there’s one thing we know, it’s that kindness goes far; so we shoveled their steps and cleaned off their car.
- Addressed a parking complaint.
- Made 2 stops for Jessica’s Law violation (snow on car roof).
- Served paperwork to 2 residents.
- A place here in town, has a pit people use; that once allowed trees, and other refuse. Due to the number, of trees taken down; over the winter, as storms ripped through town; the pit owner halted, the acceptance of brush; citing the volume, would simply just crush. Imagine the startle, when after a weekend; they discovered their closure, had gone completely unheeded. A guy had shown up, and dumped lots of trees; he dumped them regardless, and didn’t pay fees. Video footage, had captured his plate; we called him in hopes, of getting things straight. The pit owner wanted, the brush all removed; but the guy who had dumped it, was feeling reproved. The saga continues, but will be resolved; because at this point, police are involved. It would have been better, if he followed direction; but because of his choices, he’s facing abjection.
- Responded to 5 calls for vehicles off the road.
- Conducted 8 residence checks.
- Handled 8 property related calls.
- While on patrol, we checked out a lot; and spotted a tow truck, parked in a spot. The driver was nestled, and clearly asleep; he’d been towing for hours, in the snow and the sleet. We left him alone, he needed the rest; and when we checked later, he was still tucked in his nest. Four hours passed, we thought he might stay; but not that much longer, he went on his way.
- Responded with Lee Fire for a residential lockout.
- Assisted other agencies on 7 occasions.
- Assisted Lee Fire with 3 fire alarms.
- A land owner called us, with a trespassing concern; seems neighbors are parking and causing them spurn. The issue at hand, is a driveway that’s shared; but the spot where they’re parking, is theirs they declared. If they keep parking, their cars in this spot; they maybe could claim, it is part of their lot. With property lines, and boundaries involved; it’s out of our purview, but civilly solved. We hope that they all, can figure it out; without it becoming, a Hatfield’s/McCoy’s type of bout.
- Conducted follow up on 5 cases.
- Assisted citizens on 6 occasions.
- Investigated 2 suspicious vehicles.
- A neighbor complained, about a dog left in a yard; it seemed that the owners had complete disregard. The neighbors were worried, the dog would get chilly; by the owners insisted, that was just silly. The dog was a breed, that loves the outside; and being cooped up indoors, is more a downside. It was easy to see, that the dog was just fine; but assuring the caller, was well worth the time.
- Responded with the Lee Fire and McGregor Ambulance, to 6 medical aid calls.
- Responded to 2 disabled motor vehicle calls.
- Took a report of criminal threatening.
- Family is fun, until it is not; and in some sad cases, battles are fought. Such is the case, with a 911 call; pleading for help, with a guy off the wall. We quickly responded, and heard people shout; but in very short order, had it all sorted out.
- Responded to 10 motor vehicle accidents.
- Notified of an alarm system being tested.
- Responded to 6 alarm activations.
- A caller reporting, a guy driving slow; like 20 MPH, was all he would go. The good thing about, the guy’s lack of speed; we had time to catch up, even more than we’d need.  This guy wasn’t just driving, at the slow pace of turtles; he was swerving and weaving, as if dodging hurdles. We pulled up behind him, and signaled to stop; going that slow, “speed” took no time to drop. He pulled to the side, and we calmly approached; we could instantly tell, he felt his space was encroached. He lowered the window, just barely a crack; we greeted him nicely, but he said nothing back. He simply stared forward, (his face it was masked); refusing to answer, the questions we asked. Tightly he clutched, the wheel of the car; not moving an inch, just staring afar. Once we determined, he could safely roll; he was given a warning, for poor lane control. Driving safely is awesome, but you can go too slow; we gave him some pointers, then said he could go.
- Responded to a suspicious activity calls.
- Responded to 2 domestic disturbance call.
- Did a change of information for a sex offender.
- The crew over at Fire, gave us a call; they drove past a gas tank, about 6 feet tall. It was there on the roadway, in new fallen snow; and had been there just briefly, that much we know. It looked like it fell, from the back of a truck; but it hadn’t been damaged, now that’s some good luck! The tank contained Argon, a gas used to weld; guess someone will struggle, getting metal to meld.  We couldn’t be sure, exactly who dropped it; but contacted the maker, from a sticker stuck on it. Happy we called them, they’re on their way for it; we were relieved, to not have to store it!
