Activity Log 2/9/23 to 2/19/23

Yes, yes, it’s Monday; we’re feeling it too. But here’s a good reason, not to feel blue. The new log is ready, and hot off the press. We hope it brings laughter, and reduces your stress.

Lee Police Activity Log for 2/9/23 to 2/19/23:

Calls for Service:
- Performed 72 directed patrols and business checks.
- Performed 65 motor vehicle stops, including 32 for speed.
- A neighbor complained, of a really bad smell; that’s spread through the building, which wasn’t so swell. It came from the neighbors, and smelled like a skunk; which wasn’t far off, given the source of the funk. The neighbors are smokers, but not of “tobaccy”; it’s something quite common, but a little more wacky. We went and made sure, there was nothing illegal; and found it was civil, not our kind of legal. A call to the landlord, is what we suggested; because there’s no crime here, to take someone arrested.
- Took a report of illegal dumping.
- Took a report of fraud.
- Got a call from a lady, who was behind a car; that was tossing out beer cans, both near and then far. It started in Epping, but came into Lee; the gall of this person, to a litter bug be. We spoke to the driver, who completely denied; then spoke to the caller, who said “That guy lied!”. It’s a very old story, one we hear all the time; the old “he said she said”, it boggles our mind. Tell the truth and be honest, it’s not cool to lie; without further proof, cases like this just die.
- Notified of a business testing alarm system.
- Addressed 4 calls for trees/wires down.
- “Ring-around-the-rotary, clearly not a coterie. Novice, novice; learn how it works.” Did you read it or sing it?  This silly ditty, popped into our head; after hearing the words, that the caller had said. From the 911 call, we were informed; someone was driving, and poorly performed. They backed out of a spot, nearly hitting the caller; then drove round the building, which seemed even odder. But wait it continues, to the circle they went; and drove round and round, like their steering was bent. We went to go help them, and make sure they were well; but they’d found their way out, from what we could tell.
- Responded with the Lee Fire and McGregor Ambulance, to 11 medical aid calls.
- Responded to 4 disabled motor vehicle calls.
- Witnessed weaving, then the Jeep’s jaunty jump, heading haphazardly leaping the line. Intoxication improbable after accurately following field tests. Person provided earnest explanation that they were bothered by basically blinding burning bright beams which was why wonky driving was witnessed.
- Responded to 5 motor vehicle accidents.
- Found an open door during checks, investigated, and secured.
- It was just after midnight, when what did we find? But a donation bin, with out-sticking behind. The behavior seemed odd, had us scratching our head. We called to the person, who did as we said. As they climbed from the bin, we just had to ask; “What’re you doing in there? What was your task?” The person looked sheepish, and a little bit shy; to admit they were digging, their keys fell inside.
- Conducted a lockdown drill at the school.
- Made multiple attempts to serve an arrest warrant.
- A 911 caller, had witnessed a scene; a woman was waving, and started to scream. She leaned through the window, as if her fate sealed; “Help! Call the Cops!”, she frantically squealed. A male too was yelling, his voice filled with hate; it was easy to tell, he was completely irate. “Please get here quickly!”, the caller did urge; they were leaving the pumps, departure on verge. We quickly responded, but they’d already split; given the seriousness, we couldn’t just quit. We gathered the info, got clues to check out; and told all our friends, to be on the lookout.
- Responded to 5 alarm activations.
- Conducted 10 residence checks.
- It’s 2 in the morning, when we see a car stopped; some kids had pulled over, by an app they were “popped”. Their parents found out, they were out and about; way past their curfew, they’d be coming right out. They told them to wait there, they were both on the way; to drive the car home, and bring home their stray. It’s nice to see parents, who are paying attention; who care for their kids, it’s sure worth the mention.
- Addressed an animal control issue.
- Assisted with a motor vehicle lockout.
- Followed a Jeep, and watched as they drove; their side-to-side drift, was seemingly rove.  Wondering what, the problem might be; we decided to stop them, and just ask and see.  Was it drunk driving, or maybe their phone; the reason for weaving, would soon become known. The driver (a mom), had 2 kids in the back; their behavior distracting, and had her off track. Having checked for impairment, and finding there none; she was sent on her way, our work here was done.
- Assisted other agencies on 10 occasions.
- Conducted a welfare check.
- A reckless op call, came in from Rock County; it’d been passed onto us, and became inter-county.  It was running red lights, and had flipped off the caller; to know he was mad, did not take a scholar. We got into position, and waited to spy; a glimpse of the caller, or the reckless-op guy. Just as we hoped, he passed our position; we stopped him and gained, a partial admission. He had run the red light, that part was true; but the rest of the claims, he would simply pooh-pooh. After the stop, and a short conversation; we called back the guy, who’d made accusation.  The fact that we’d found him, and conducted a stop; wasn’t enough though, and he got really hot.  “Just like the cops, to not do their job!”; and that was our thank you for helping, how odd.
- Received 7 motor vehicle complaints.
- Handled 4 property related calls.
- A guy and his dog pal, had stopped at the store; but while he was shopping, the dog locked the door. Maybe this canine, was feeling left out; and locking the door, was his way to pout. Whatever the reason, on purpose or not; we got the doors open, right there on the spot. The two were together, not sure what was said; but pretty sure Fido, was hanging his head. We all know the saying, that dog’s man’s best friend; and that’s for sure why, they made up in the end.
- Conducted follow up on 4 cases.
- Assisted citizens on 2 occasions.
- Here comes another, reckless op call; someone was driving, like they’d gone off the wall. The very young driver, was on a youth license; which has special rules, that are there to give guidance. They’re rules about driving, and passengers too; this driver had broken, more than just 1 or 2. With two other minors, along for the ride; we contacted their parents, and waited roadside. We had conversation, about choices they make; and are happy to know, at least this time they’re safe.
- Investigated 8 suspicious vehicles.
- Addressed a parking complaint.
- The calls they poured in, for a deer that was hit; it was wounded and bleeding, folks were having a fit. When we 1st got there, the scene was chaotic; people running around, things looked slightly neurotic.  Because of the panic, and cars strewn about; it took us a minute, to figure things out. Some cars were from helpers, but others involved; one thing was certain, we’d get this thing solved. Then came the question, “Where is the deer?”; that’s when we saw it, 3 women in fear. They had tackled the deer, and were holding it down; they were trying to keep it, from running around. Hoping to save it, from causing more crashes; they tightly held on, enduring its thrashes. While we understand, what they were trying to do; we need to be clear, that it’s not safe for you. To get near a creature, especially one struck; could find you quite quickly, testing your luck. These people were lucky, and that’s really great; not so for the deer though, it wound up on a plate.
- Investigated 3 suspicious activity calls.
- Assisted DCYF with a referral.
- The caller had parked, getting ready to shop; when they witnessed a truck, hit a truck in a spot. The driver got out, as if checking for damage; but then they took off, or so it looked from that vantage. While in the store, having the truck owner paged; the driver came forward, and politely explained. He did hit the truck, but had no stuff for a note; so went into the store, and there the note wrote. All parties now present, both trucks were looked over; no damage to either, gave this case closure.
