Activity Log 3/1/23 to 3/15/23

Ready or not, the new log is here. May it bring smiles, that reach ear to ear.

Lee Police Activity Log for 3/1/23 to 3/15/23:
Calls for Service:
- Performed 120 directed patrols and business checks.
- Performed 59 motor vehicle stops, including 25 for speed.
- Made 5 stops for Jessica’s Law violation (snow on car roof).
- An off duty officer, on their way home; saw something strange, and thought we should know.  He saw a car in a lot, parked after close; and a guy lurking about, suspicion arose. We hurried right over, and looked all around; but the guy and his ride, couldn’t be found. With closer inspection, we picked up a trail; and followed the footprints, which told us the tale. He’d walked from the lot, to a camper out back; then back to his car, is what we saw from the track. The camper was locked, nothing was missing; maybe casing the place, or possibly… um, watering a tree.
- Registered a sex offender.
- Responded to 12 reports of vehicles off the road.
- Provided fingerprinting for 4 residents.
- We took a report, from a guy who’d been had; they paid for some work, but were left feeling mad. The story you see, is really quite sad; they paid for construction, but had hired a cad. It relieved us to find, in this particular case; there was enough for a warrant, hope it puts him in place.
- Served paperwork to 2 residents/businesses.
- Investigated 3 abandoned motor vehicles.
- Notified of a business testing alarm system.
- A 911 call, for a car driving badly; the caller concerned, that the trip could end sadly. The driver was drifting, into oncoming traffic; the possible outcome, potentially graphic. We stopped the driver, who confessed they were drowsy; that was the reason, their driving was lousy. We’ll say this one loud, for those in the back; if you’re feeling that tired, don’t drive… “hit the rack”.
- Addressed 13 calls for trees/wires down.
- Responded with the Lee Fire and McGregor Ambulance, to 15 medical aid calls.
- Responded to 4 disabled motor vehicle calls.
- While driving patrol, on North River Road; we spotted a truck, that lost some of its load. The driver was out, and doing his best; to pick the stuff up, and clean up the mess. We pulled alongside, and gave him a hand; clearly his day, wasn’t going as planned.
- Responded to 19 motor vehicle accidents.
- Responded to 9 alarm activations.
- Conducted 14 residence checks.
- Caller reported, a dirt bike that’s naughty; its popping up wheelies, and driving plain haughty. Reportedly standing, driving at varied speeds; not paying attention, and other misdeeds. We wanted to stop them, but were out of position; catching this rider, became another town’s mission.
- Addressed 2 animal control issues.
- Assisted with 2 motor vehicle lockouts.
- TT unit, hit wires in town; they’re just hanging low, but not fully down. We made some quick calls, to get the lines fixed; and hoped for the best, in the betwixt.
- Assisted other agencies on 13 occasions.
- Conducted 3 welfare checks.
- Have YOU ever had, just one of “those” days; where things all go wrong, full of problems and delays? That is what happened, to a crew that was working; they had no idea, that trouble was lurking. It started with one truck, that got stuck in the mud; which then became two trucks, that were stuck in the crud. A tree that had fallen, also took down a pole; which brought down some wires, “Quick call out patrol!” From there it continued, and kept getting worse; the road was shut down, drivers couldn’t traverse. The power went out, what else could go wrong; thankful that days, aren’t always this long.
- Received 19 motor vehicle complaints.
- Handled 11 property related calls.
- Responded for a 911 hang up call.
- Caller reporting, a guy fishing on ice; they were concerned, that it may not end nice. Worried the ice was thin, and would break; they thought that maybe, he’d made a mistake. We checked with the fisher, who seemed like a pro; he’d measured the ice, to know he could go.
- Conducted follow up on 5 cases.
- Assisted citizens on 13 occasions.
- Assisted DCYF with a referral.
- Call for a child, who couldn’t be found; they’d looked high and low but they weren’t around. After some calls, to get information; the child was fine, just miscommunication.
- Conducted a civil stand by.
- Removed 2 road hazards.
- Took a report of an online scam.
- Imagine you’re driving, and encounter this scene; a car strikes a deer, which then walks away clean. The driver who hit it, just drove on their way; the caller was shocked, by the surreal display.
- Took a phone scam report.
- Checked on the school.
- Took a report of harassment.
- A woman slumped over, the wheel of her car; was called in to dispatch, her behavior off par.  She came wide awake, when we tapped on the glass; her car at the pump, after getting some gas.  She answered correctly, all the test questions asked; and all of the field tests, she easily passed. Seeing no reason, that she couldn’t drive; she went on her way, after her nap to revive.
- Issued a parking ticket for interfering with snow removal.
- Investigated 2 suspicious vehicles.
- Responded with Lee Fire for a gasoline spill.
- A business reported, a guy who seemed drunk; was out in his truck, acting a punk. We went to the business, to check on the guy; he was loud and aggressive, and possibly high. He continued to rant, and we asked him to stop; but this guy decided, to take on the cop. The one-on-one tussle, did quickly begin; but in just a moment, civilians jumped in. Even with backup, he continued to rail; so out of control, that we took him to jail. It’s awesome to know, when push comes to shove; our community’s got us, far and above!
