Fireworks Ordinance

Town of Lee Fireworks Ordinance states: “3. Class “C” Permissible fireworks as established for sale to the general public in the State of New Hampshire and authorized by the Commissioner of Safety may be displayed within the town in accordance with State of New Hampshire RSA 160-C. No special permit from the fire department is necessary. The display of permissible fireworks shall be performed in a manner that does not create an unsafe condition.”

Fireworks by the numbers

  • Fireworks start an average of 18,500 fires per year, including 1,300 structure fires, 300 vehicle fires, and 16,900 outside and other fires. These fires caused an average of three deaths, 40 civilian injuries, and an average of $43 million in direct property damage.
  • Fireworks were involved in an estimated 9,100 injuries treated in U.S. hospital emergency departments during calendar year 2018 (95 percent confidence interval 7,000–11,100). The estimated rate of emergency department-treated injuries is 2.8 per 100,000 individuals in the United States.
  • Children 10 to 14 years of age had the highest estimated rate of emergency department-treated, fireworks-related injuries (5.2 injuries per 100,000 people). Older teens, 15 to 19 years of age, had the second highest estimated rate (3.1 injuries per 100,000 people).
  • On Independence Day in a typical year, far more U.S. fires are reported than on any other day, and fireworks account for two out of five of those fires, more than any other cause of fires.
